Saint Valentine decoration

s aint Valentine’s Day or the Feast of Saint Valentine, is a celebration observed on February 14 each year. It is celebrated in many countries around the world, although it is not a public holiday in most of them.St. Valentine’s Day began as a liturgical celebration of one or more early Christian saints named Valentinus. Several martyrdom stories were invented for the various Valentines that belonged to February 14, and added to latermartyrologies. It is just around the corner and why not show your love with these cute crochet hearts?

Sweet Heart Pattern

What do you need for this project:
– Sport weight yarn
– Crochet hook
– Tapestry needle to weave in ends
– A pair of scissors

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Ch 6, sl st in 1st ch to make a ring and ch 5 which counts as your 1st tr (I call this a 3ch tr) followed by 2 ch for a corner.
2. Make 3 tr, 2 ch (corner) into the ring and repeat 2 times to make a square (same as starting a granny square). Join this row with a sl st in the 3rd ch of the first 3 ch tr where you see the arrow.
3. Ch 3 and work the following stitches in your corner: 1 tr, ch 2, 2 tr.
4. Now you make tr in each stitch on the side followed by the next corner stitches: 2 tr, 2 ch, 2tr, repeat all the way around. You should have 7 tr on each side of your square (a solid granny square). Join this row with a sl st in the 3rd ch of the first 3 ch tr where you see the arrow.
5. You have made a solid granny square. This is the body of your heart. Lets make the curves. First you make sl st in the next stitch and in the corner.
6. Now we make 11 dtr in the 4th stitch, count from the left which is easier. You can now see the curve appear.
7. Make a sl st in the corner loop on your previous row followed by a dc in the corner of your first row.
8. And now we make the second curve, 11 dtr in the 4th stitch. Count from the left corner, it is easier.
9. Join this last row with a sl st in the corner loop (see arrow) followed by  asl st in the next stitch for stability.
10. Cut your yarn and use your tapestry needle to finish off your work. Stitch from the front to the back in the next stitch, massage the stitch a bit for a smooth finish. Fasten off on the back of your heart.
